Espian ecology

The Espian ecology is the general term given to our socio-economic model. It comprises:

  • A reputation economy
  • A gift economy
  • A decision making system
  • A non-managed collaborative network

It is designed to nurture the cultural and natural commons, whilst providing a more efficient mechanism than any currently available.

It's a method of distributing goods, money, services, and produce according to a cryptographically secure trust network. As the Toman Website puts it, "It is an attempt to combine individual initiative and co-ordinated public service within one organisation, while exploring democratic means of decision making and of distributing income."

One of the reasons why The Plexnet is being built is to enable a Toman System to happen more effectively. It has been doubted as to whether the Plexnet is strictly necessary for this; it is possible to achieve it in a Tomanr style Web 2.0 fashion. See also the Tomanr project proposal.

Nomenclature

On 21st May 2007 there was some discussion between DerT, Tav, and Sbp about whether the Toman System should be called that, the Espian Ecology, or something completely different. Sbp suggested that it be not referred to by name at all, but after referring to it by name many times in just the next couple of days, he conceded the point on the 24th May.

References

The Espian ecology was initially called Toma (tav's organic meta architecture); then, Toman (trust-based organisation management).
